Rebuilding Lives One Home at a Time
Dear Friends,
“With God, all things are possible!” Thanks to you, the “One Home at a Time” vision has become a reality. Ronnie and Janet Keller of Chalmette, LA have returned to their newly restored home. Words can’t begin to express the gratitude they feel. As Janet said, “I feel like someone should pinch me, it’s so unbelievable. It’s truly a miracle.”
What has been accomplished since “One Home at a Time” was conceived?
A new Roof
All new electrical including a Heating and Air Conditioning System
New Windows and Doors
Insulation
Drywall
All new Fixtures
A new Kitchen including Cabinets and Appliances
New Flooring - ceramic tile in most of the home
Painting
None of this would have been possible without YOU! Perhaps you were one of the persons who traveled to Louisiana to work, or maybe you made a financial donation, or maybe you prayed for the workers and for Ronnie and Janet. God truly works in wonderful ways and every time it seemed the project was going to run out of money, or there was a problem at the worksite, a check would arrive in the mail, an encouraging word was received, or the right person would arrive at the house.
No matter how you contributed, WE THANK YOU.
We extend thanks to Homeland Ministries and Week of Compassion of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for their support of the initial vision and financial support. Grace was extended to the work groups by our Disciples Mission Stations, Grace and Slidell Christian Churches who opened their doors, floors, and kitchens to the volunteers.
What’s next?
As a pilot project, “One Home at a Time” will submit an evaluation including financial information to Disciples Home Mission and Week of Compassion of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Future “One Home at a Time” projects may be coordinated by other congregations who see a need and wish to turn a dream into reality. As with any project, there is sure to be a let-down. Ronnie and Janet’s home has seen a flurry of activity and now that the house is completed, the street, with the many vacant homes will once again be quiet. In order to help furnish Ronnie and Janet with household goods and to express our well-wishes, we would like to invite you to participate in a long-distance housewarming for Ronnie and Janet. They are registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and below find information about how you may send them a housewarming gift. Another option will be to send Ronnie and Janet a gift card from Bed Bath and Beyond, or another store such as Target, which will enable them to turn their house into a home.
Our God is an awesome God!!!
Blessings and peace be to all of you,
